Dear Friends, Nov, Dec, 2009, Jan 2010
Next week is AQS. What an exciting event for Iowa to host such a huge celebration of sewing and quilting. Everyone go – bring your friends and family. This is an amazing show and you don’t need to BE a quilter to enjoy and appreciate the quilts and vendors. We need to show our support to the American Quilting Society and advocate keeping this show in Iowa every year. It’s a huge boost to our local economy and small business owners.
While you are at the show, come see us at booth # 818. (We can always use a hug.)
We have more information about our show specials later in this newsletter-
We have so many talented machine embroidery artists in our classes. Several comments I’ve heard recently reflect a general reluctance to use silk yardage for projects due to the expense. I thought about this – and did some estimates on how much time you spend in front of your machine stitching out these glorious blocks and my question is, “why wouldn’t you use silk?” Your time and efforts are worth spending a little more on your fabric and your silk scraps can be used in so many more projects like, appliqué and crazy quilts. Use every little silk scrap so not to offend any of our little “cuddly friends” that work so hard spinning the silk.
I’m going to put some of my Jenny Haskins training to work as we make the “Basket Full of Posies” pillow. This is a one day class that includes the techniques of foundation piecing, embroidered decoupage, decorative stitching, piped frill, echo and stipple quilting. If you own an embroidery machine, bring it, if not, come anyway. Anyone can make this beautiful pillow.
Besides our piecing classes we have added some workshops for jacket construction, bag making and decorating Pashmina scarves.
Our annual Christmas open house is Friday and Saturday, December 4th and 5th this year. Door prices, apple cider and homemade fudge, (thanks Rhonda!) fun and fellowship will be happening at the shop...along with some sales.
Have a blessed Christmas this year friends as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
May you be filled with God’s Grace and Blessings,
Lee
